The trek begins at Machame Gate, passing through lush rainforests teeming with diverse flora and fauna. The day's hike involves moderate climbs, and after around 6-7 hours, you'll reach Machame Camp situated amidst the beautiful forest.
Ascending from the rainforest, the trail gradually opens up to moorland landscapes. You'll traverse through scenic valleys and ridges, gaining elevation as you proceed. The hike takes around 4-6 hours, concluding at Shira Camp, where you'll enjoy breathtaking views of the Shira Plateau.
The trail ascends to Lava Tower, offering stunning panoramic views. The climb to this high point aids acclimatization. Descending from Lava Tower, you'll reach Barranco Camp, nestled beneath the impressive Barranco Wall, after approximately 6-7 hours of trekking.
The day begins with a challenging ascent up the Barranco Wall, followed by a descent into the Karanga Valley. The hike is relatively shorter, lasting about 3-4 hours, with the Karanga Campsite set in a sheltered valley.
Continuing the journey, the trail ascends steadily toward Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt. The terrain becomes increasingly rocky as you traverse alpine desert landscapes. After roughly 4-5 hours of trekking, you'll rest at Barafu Camp to prepare for the summit push.
Wake at midnight to a light breakfast and then prepare for your summit ascent. The goal is to climb before dawn so that you can reach Uhuru Peak shortly before or after sunrise. The trails is a series of switchbacks up steep scree or possibly snow, and reach Stella Point on the crater rim at 5,861 m/18,640 ft between 4 and 5 AM. At this point you will be having the views of the fabled crater and its glaciers facing you. Then after 1 hour of hiking along the Kibo crater rim near the celebrated snows takes you to Kilimanjaro true summit, Uhuru Peak. Here you will spend some times for taking photo’s but it will depend on how you feel. After your summit activities done, you will descend back to the Barafu campsite, for lunch, rest, collect your equipment, and continue down through moorland and heath zone to Mweka campsite, Dinner and overnight
In the morning after breakfast you will be trekking down to Mweka gate. The trek is a pleasant one through the lower rain-forested slopes and down to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters). Although you cover 9km / 5.5 miles, the trek only takes 3-4 hours. Assuming you successfully reach Stella Point or Uhuru Peak you will be presented with official certificates – a green certificate for the former and a gold certificate for the latter. It is customary to tip your trekking crew before being transported back to your hotel in Moshi
