Your Safety is Our Top Priority

Health & Safety Guidelines

At KILIMARK ADVENTURES, your safety and wellbeing are our top priorities. We have established comprehensive health and safety protocols for all our tours, treks, and safaris.

1. Pre-Trip Health Preparation

We strongly recommend consulting your doctor before booking, especially for:

  • Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru treks

  • If you're over 60 years old

1.2 Vaccinations

Recommended vaccinations for Tanzania:

  • Required: Yellow Fever (if traveling from endemic countries)
  • Recommended: Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, Tetanus, Polio
  • Consider: Rabies (for wildlife areas), Meningitis

Consult a travel medicine clinic at least 4-6 weeks before departure.

1.3 Malaria Prevention

Malaria is present in some parts of Tanzania. Recommendations:

  • Take antimalarial medication (consult your doctor)
  • Use insect repellent (50%+ DEET)
  • Sleep under mosquito nets (provided)
  • Wear long sleeves and pants at dawn/dusk

Note: Malaria risk is minimal at high altitudes (Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru)

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) can affect anyone, regardless of fitness level. Symptoms include:

  • Headache
  • Nausea and loss of appetite
  • Dizziness and fatigue
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Shortness of breath

2.2 Our Prevention Measures

  • Gradual ascent profiles: Our itineraries include proper acclimatization days

  • Twice-daily health checks: Pulse oximeter readings and symptom monitoring
  • Oxygen availability: Emergency oxygen and medical kits on all climbs
  • Flexible descent: If symptoms worsen, we descend immediately

2.3 Climber Responsibilities

  • Drink 3-4 liters of water daily
