Detailed Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania – Hotel Overnight

  • Pick up from Kilimanjaro International Airport
  • Transfer to your hotel in Moshi / Arusha
  • Pre-climb briefing and gear check with your mountain guide
  • Overnight at hotel (bed & breakfast)

Day 1: Machame Gate – Machame Camp

  • Altitude: 1,800m – 3,000m
  • Hiking time: 5–7 hours
  • Distance: ~11 km

After registration at Machame Gate, begin the trek through dense rainforest. The trail may be muddy, but the forest is rich with wildlife and birdlife. Arrive at Machame Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp

  • Altitude: 3,000m – 3,840m
  • Hiking time: 4–6 hours
  • Distance: ~5 km

Leave the forest and enter the heath and moorland zone. Enjoy wide views of the Shira Plateau and Mount Meru in the distance. Overnight at Shira Camp.

Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

  • Altitude: 3,840m – 4,630m – 3,960m
  • Hiking time: 6–8 hours
  • Distance: ~10 km

A key acclimatization day. Hike up to Lava Tower for lunch before descending to Barranco Camp. This "climb high, sleep low" approach greatly improves acclimatization.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

  • Altitude: 3,960m – 4,035m
  • Hiking time: 4–5 hours
  • Distance: ~5 km

Start the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall—an exciting but non-technical scramble. Continue across alpine terrain to Karanga Camp.

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

  • Altitude: 4,035m – 4,673m
  • Hiking time: 3–4 hours
  • Distance: ~4 km

A short but steep ascent to Barafu Camp. After an early dinner, rest and prepare for the summit attempt.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

  • Altitude: 4,673m – 5,895m – 3,100m
  • Hiking time: 10–14 hours
  • Distance: ~17 km

Begin the summit push around midnight. Reach Stella Point at sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa. Descend to Mweka Camp for overnight.

Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate

  • Altitude: 3,100m – 1,640m
  • Hiking time: 3–4 hours
  • Distance: ~10 km

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive summit certificates and transfer back to your hotel.
