Detailed Itinerary
Arrive in Lushoto town (1,500m), the "Switzerland of East Africa". Check into guesthouse. Afternoon walk to Irente Viewpoint with spectacular views over Maasai plains. Visit local craft center. Overnight Lushoto.
Trek through Shambaa villages and farmlands. Meet locals, see traditional ways of life. Walk through terraced hillsides growing maize, bananas, and vegetables. Lunch in village. Continue to Mtae. Homestay or guesthouse. (5-6 hours trekking)
Morning trek through ancient Magamba Rainforest. See endemic birds and monkeys. Visit beautiful waterfalls with natural pools (swimming possible). Picnic lunch. Return to Lushoto via different route. Overnight Lushoto. (4-5 hours)
Full day circular trek via Rangwi and Lukozi villages. Experience authentic rural life. Visit local school or health center. Stunning mountain views throughout. Return to Lushoto. (6-7 hours)
If Sunday, visit colorful Lukozi market. Otherwise, relaxed morning exploring Lushoto town. Transfer to Arusha or Tanga. End of trek.
