Known as the “Whiskey Route,” the Machame Route is one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic and diverse trails. Trek through lush rainforest, open moorland, alpine desert, and the dramatic high-altitude landscape before reaching Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters.

Detailed Itinerary
Your Kilimark Adventures team will pick you up from Kilimanjaro International Airport or your hotel and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. Before the climb, you will meet your guide for a mountain briefing and equipment check, preparing you for the trek ahead.
After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate for registration and final preparations. Begin your trek through the beautiful rainforest, following the scenic trail toward Machame Camp. Enjoy your first evening on the mountain with dinner and overnight camping.

Trekking Time: 5–7 hours
Leave the rainforest behind as the landscape changes to moorland. The trail climbs steadily toward the Shira Plateau, offering impressive views of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. Continue to Shira Cave Camp for dinner and overnight camping
Elevation: 3,000 m – 3,840 m
Trekking Time: 4–6 hours
Trek across the high-altitude landscape toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,630 m before descending to Barranco Camp. This important acclimatization day follows the principle of “climb high, sleep low.” Enjoy spectacular views of the Western Breach and Barranco Wall before settling in for the night.
Elevation: 3,840 m – 3,960 m
Trekking Time: 6–8 hours
Start the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, followed by a scenic trek across the Karanga Valley toward Barafu Camp. The trail becomes increasingly alpine as you approach the summit zone. At Barafu Camp, your guide will prepare you for the upcoming summit attempt and you will have an early dinner and rest.
Elevation: 3,960 m – 4,640 m
Trekking Time: 7–9 hours
Begin the summit attempt during the early morning hours. Trek through the darkness toward Stella Point and continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m.
After celebrating your summit achievement and taking photographs, descend through the alpine desert toward Mweka Camp for a well-earned overnight rest.

Trekking Time: 12–15 hours
After breakfast, begin your final descent through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Complete the park exit procedures and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate.
Your Kilimark Adventures team will then transfer you back to your Moshi hotel or onward destination, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and prepare for your journey home. Depending on your flight time, our team will provide a private transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure.
